Hows Zat!
"Jesus Christ 2007 Not Out" – this was the slogan used by RMI in its biggest outreach project to date. This took place during the ICC World Cup Cricket Tournament in the Caribbean in March/April 2007. RMI joined forces with "Hope" and other Christian organisations in seizing the once in a lifetime opportunity of reaching the world from the Caribbean.
The vision was to reach both nationals and cricket lovers from around the world who would be in the Caribbean for the World Cup. It was a very exciting and expensive project and took months of planning. It involved working in 9 Caribbean nations in the 6 week period of World Cup fervour and fever.
Nine nations in 6 weeks
Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent, Grenada, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, and St Kitts. Various forms of outreach were used: sports, exhibitions, music etc. RMI’s main thrust was the distribution of a special cricket edition of the very popular “Word for Today Caribbean”. It featured testimonies of Christian cricketers and their photos, articles with a cricketing theme as well as the superb daily devotional from United Christian Broadcasters. We printed 125,000 copies which were distributed to and in all the host nations.
Objective accomplished
God caused me know that we had really accomplished our objective by the following story: We have a cricketer friend in the UK whose wife went out to the Caribbean for the World Cup Final. She called him to tell him she had been given a copy of the Word for Today Caribbean on her way to the match. My cricketer friend called me to let me know which felt like God’s confirmation to me that the mission was accomplished.
The witness was good in many of the islands
The excellent slogan “Jesus Christ 2007 Not Out” was well used. There were large banners, bumper stickers and t-shirts.
Positive results:
- There were over 1700 documented decisions for Christ in Jamaica alone
- At the national crusade in St Vincent during the World Cup hundreds were saved and over 10,000 people joined in prayer
- In Barbados over 5000 people met for prayer in the actual cricket ground
- Thousands heard the gospel from all over the world
- Only heaven will reveal the true impact
We still need your help to cover the cost of the project.
Witness reached the cricketers:
We prayed that our message would actually reach the players too. As you can see from the photo of Shaun Pollock wearing our t-shirt this must have happened. God is good!
